How Louisiana withholding is calculated
Computer formula, not annual return tax
The January 2026 R-1210/R-1306 computer method applies 3.09% after your elected annual deduction: $0, $12,875 or $25,750. The 3% return rate is different. We use the formula rather than wage-bracket table cells; the calculated period amount is rounded to cents before annual totals.
Copy the actual2026 L-4
Choose 0,1 or2 from your completed L-4 independently of federal filing status. Code 2 includes head of household and qualifying surviving spouse. No certificate starts at 0; this does not decide eligibility. The old dependent-credit worksheet is not used. Copy line 7 once: a positive amount increases withholding; a negative amount reduces it, with state withholding floored at zero. This does not reduce federal, local or FICA taxes.
Daily and less frequent payments
The guide explicitly specifies365 for the daily computer formula; the shared annual work pattern and federal calculation use260 daily payments. Only the state deduction annualization uses 365. Quarterly and semiannual choices use the generic formula with 4 or 2 periods as estimates, not published payroll columns. Actual irregular payroll and YTD timing are not reconstructed.
Benefits, tips and annual bonus
Enter only actual qualifying pre-tax benefits, such as traditional401(k) deferrals and qualified cafeteria premiums; Roth and otherwise taxable benefits remain taxable. Report taxable tips. Louisiana requires withholding on supplemental pay; this annual estimate averages bonus with wages and does not reconstruct the separate check or its payment date.
Employee pay and employer obligations
Louisiana Works describes UI as an employer business tax, not an employee deduction, and prohibits recovering workers’ compensation premiums from employee wages. Neither is subtracted here. Applicable federal minimum wage, overtime coverage, legal regular rate, tip credits, exemptions and lawful deductions are not determined by this calculator. Enter overtime hours and multiplier separately; salary alone does not establish exemption.
Local, cross-state and exempt-certificate limits
New Orleans, Baton Rouge or another location does not establish tax residency or exemption. This estimate excludes local taxes, interstate allocation/credits, multiple-employer coordination, military/mobile-workforce eligibility, special plans and L-4E exempt certificates. A zero formula result is not a determination of exemption or final return liability.

Louisiana paycheck questions
What the Louisiana estimate includes, which official schedules it uses, and what it deliberately leaves out.
Which Louisiana withholding rules does this use?
The January 2026 computer formula uses 3.09% and the actual L-4 election0/1/2, with $0/$12,875/$25,750 annual deductions. Signed line 7 adjustments are applied once with a zero floor. This is not the3% annual return calculation or a wage-bracket-table lookup.
How much is a $52,000 Louisiana salary every two weeks?
Gross pay is $2,000 over 26 payments. With single federal filing, L-4 code 0, zero benefits/adjustments and no bonus or tips, the shared engine estimates $61.80 Louisiana withholding and $1,629.05 net per check. A valid code 1 election instead produces $46.50 state withholding and $1,644.35 net under the same assumptions.
Can I enter a negative Louisiana adjustment?
Yes. Copy the signed L-4 line 7 amount. It reduces only calculated Louisiana withholding and cannot take it below zero; it does not create a refundable paycheck credit. The tool does not decide certificate eligibility.
Does selecting Louisiana calculate cross-border credits or payroll compliance?
No. Local taxes, other-state obligations and credits, L-4E, military/mobile-workforce exemptions, special plans and legal overtime eligibility are outside this annual estimate. Actual wages, elections and payroll rounding can differ.
