What-if scenarios
Calculations are estimates for informational purposes and are not tax, legal, or financial advice. Actual withholding and take-home pay may differ.
How Kansas withholding is calculated
Actual ordinary K-4 components
Copy the completed state election and worksheet B, C, D, E and F independently of federal W-4. Personal and spouse amounts differ from dependents. F must match their sum. This slice excludes nonzero head-of-household D, Exempt and legacy certificates; do not change your certificate to fit the tool. Technical planning bounds of 99 dependents and $10,000 extra are not legal maxima.
Own published payroll-period tables
Current tables effective July 2024 remain linked in the official directory for 2026. Each frequency retains its actual zero threshold, 5.2% band and 5.58% upper band with printed base. Small cent transitions are preserved. Annual scaling gives different results; the estimate keeps cents while an employer may choose permitted whole-dollar rounding.
Fictional official-method example
A $48,000 annual salary paid 24 times, actual Joint election, B1/C1/E1 and F3 gives $20,640 annual allowance, $860 per payment and $1,140 after allowance. State withholding is $41.44 per payment. This is not take-home pay or final tax liability.
Employee charges and wage-law scope
Employer unemployment contributions cannot be shifted to employee wages under 44-718(a); workers compensation insurance cost is the employer’s under 44-532(b). Neither is deducted here. Special public pension and other plan eligibility is not assessed. State overtime law and federal FLSA have different coverage; entered hours and multiplier do not establish lawful overtime, tip credits or deduction authorization.
Estimate scope
Kansas current percentage tables, effective July 2024, with each own-period constant and cents; employer whole-dollar rounding may differ. Copy actual K-4 Single/Joint and B/C personal/spouse amounts ($9,160 each), E dependents ($2,320 each) and matching F total; extra line 5 once. No form: Single/zero allowances, not an eligibility decision. HOH D, Exempt and legacy certificates excluded. Bonus, entered overtime and taxable tips averaged with ordinary wages; only confirmed qualifying income-tax benefits. No employee charge for employer UI/WC. Local/interstate allocation, separate checks, actual YTD, public pension/other plan eligibility, final-return liability and wage-law compliance not determined.

Kansas paycheck questions
What the Kansas estimate includes, which official schedules it uses, and what it deliberately leaves out.
Can I enter only the K-4 total allowance count?
No. Personal/spouse and dependent allowances have different dollar values. Copy the separate worksheet components and matching total; this tool does not prepare or approve the certificate.
Does this cover every Kansas certificate?
No. Nonzero head-of-household D, Exempt, legacy certificates, interstate allocation and separate supplemental checks are outside this ordinary estimate.
Are employer UI and workers compensation deducted?
No. These employer costs are not employee charges in this estimate. Other already-confirmed plan deductions require their own actual facts.
